Q: 1990 toyota tercel 4cyl redline?
I have a 1990 toyota tercel 4cyl, 5pd manual that does not have a factory tach. It does have an aftermarket tach with a shift light, but I have no idea where the redline should be. Anybody know?
A: i would set it at 6k, it can take that easy. the rev limiter is probably set somewhere around 6500 or 6600.

Any one know where I can find info on the carb that is on the 3E toyota engine in the 1990 tercel? Haynes and Chiltons dont really have much, even a subscription to alldatadiy doesnt turn up much. Anyone know of a manual devoted to specifically this carb?

A: try calling various toyota dealers. they have records on every car. I cant help much since my tercel is a 95. a completely newer and different model than yours.
Q: Where is the starter located on a 1990 toyota tercel, and how do you change it?
A: look on the top of the motor just above the transmission.two bolts to remove it.make sure you remove the negative battery cable first.
Q: Where is the 1990 Toyota tercel timing mark?
My Toyota Tercel distributor was moved. Is there a timing mark to retime the car? I have a timing light and I know which is the number one spark wire. I looked on pulleys for a timing mark but was unsuccesful to find one.
Also how many degrees before top dead center? Do I have to take it to a shop?
I mechanically moved it and tried to set it by ear and it does run rather well. Any help would be appreciated.

I need to have someone that has a motor manual look in it and see if there is a timing mark on this car. If it does have one then with my timing light I can time it. Thank you.
A: depends on where it was made some have a vacuum advance note hoses must be disconnected and plugged then set timing to 3degrees. If no vacuum advance there is a diagnostic connector at left front strut tower open and take a jumper wire and jump E1 & T1 together and set timing to 3 degrees. Any questions e-mail me

A: Check the AC fuse first .If it's OK and still won't engage the coil to the clutch may be defective . Unless you are capable of testing your self you may have to have some one test it for you . If it checks out OK next check the AC switch .Good luck

A: You could have a bad McPherson front shock absorber or excessive play in a shock isolator where the shock mounts to the upper body under the hood. Loose shock mounts are hard to diagnose because the shop technician can't easily feel the excessive play in them unless he raises the car off the ground a couple of feet and then lifts up on each front tire to try and compress the coil spring. If there's excessive play at the top of the shock tower, he will see it when he lifts up on the wheel. You could also have worn bushings in your front torsion bar that extends between the front wheels. Make sure to get new strut isolator bearings installed when you have new shocks installed.

A: 1990 model is far way better than the 1984 model.............remember that later models are the upgrades of the past ones.better performance,more reliable and efficient.

I bought a car from Amy Metsker, 1990 Toyota Tercel for $300. She said it needed a new engine. So, I need to find a place near Goldendale Washington that sells engines. They must run. Know of any place???
Also, I do want to get a new engine. so i can put it in. I have friend who owns a car repair shop, he said he'd teach me how to take out the old one and install the new one.

Somebody can share a raiting about marks like Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Subaru, etc and prices in your local areas between the years 1990 and 1999, example:
Toyota Tercel 1993 $2,800.00 (dolars of EEUU)
A: Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru are a higher category of car than Deawoo.
Deawoo, Kia, Hundi and a few others are low cost, lower quality and generally don't have the features and comfort of the high makes. They generally take 10 years or less to get to the point that major repairs are a given and cost more than the car's worth. Pretty much intended to be disposable.
Q: Where is a good place to buy a decent Toyota car $1-$3000?
The dealer seems to cost to much. I'm basically looking for a Toyota Corolla 1990-1995,Tercel 1990-1995, or Pickup truck 1990-1995.

Q: This is hard for me?
I am a teenager 18 years of age. My parents had given me privilege to drive this year for my senior year in high school. And i've been ok with having a car for transportation everyday for school and not really caring about what car i drive or how it looks or appeals to others. But now college is here, and for some reason, i feel so unhappy with the car my parents gave me to use for driving. I don't know what it is, but i just think that the car i drive is SO out of style, small, and very old. It has dents on the sides, exterior paint is fading really fast, the interior is stained and sticky, it's not a power-automated car, the engine and acceleration is bad almost like no horse power, and the AC is terrible. I drive a 1990 Toyota Tercel. I just can't seem to feel content with this car. It drives me crazy that it's so ugly and it's so slow driving in the highway. What more in the beltway ? How do i honor my privilege of driving, instead of being so selfish or discontented ?
A: Hey buddy I understand your pain. In high school I had the grand privilege of driving a 1989 BLACK (paint almost gone) Chevy Celebrity Station Wagon (AKA the Stealth Wimper) It had no guts, and when it got hot in the summer it would shut off while breaking or going around corners (goodbye power steering!)
My sister drove it when she was in college. She was so thrilled to have wheels that she went with it. She pimped it out as best she could. Told her friends there was only AM radio. Put lime green seat covers on the car. Orange glow strips around the bottom of the car. A feather duct taped to the antenna.
The car was hideous--but it ran. It served her embarrassingly well.
If you cant afford your own car, insurance, etc--take what you've got and make it "pretty fly for a white guy"....
Q: Why did my spark plug "Explode"?
It's happened 3 times now, within the past 2 months! Well, lemme correct myself. It really exploded once, the other time (a different socket), just came out (this time complete), and the wire needed to be replaced. So the wire and the plug were replaced, a day or 2 later that same plug came out (bad threading on extender), so the extender was replaced.
Tonight, my mother drove my car to work and on her way there (thankfully she was almost there) another one "exploded". I think so anyway, as the way she described it, it sounded the same as when it "exploded" on me the 1st time. It made a loud bang and then you could here that spattering/sputtering noise, making it sound almost like a push lawn mower. I know the sound is coming from the compression on the cylinder.
Anyway, this has happened three times in the past month and a half and all of the plugs were installed 3 months ago, along with a new distributor motor and new wires.
Do you think it's the plugs? My father seems to think so, he's been a mechanic for over 40 years and he says, he's seen "blown" plugs before, but nothing like that. The original plug blew up into 2 halves!

Do you think it is the engine? It is a 1990 Toyota Tercel Hatch, old engine, old car, burning oil all the time (I need to top it of from below the dip stick line, once if not twice a month), some sort of acceleration problem, when you step on the gas it hesitates (stick shift) almost like it's not getting a spark, bad idle, either idles to low (when it's started) or to high (after it's hot), you have to disconnect the pcv valve to get it to idle higher when it's cold. If you drive it with the pcv valve disconnected it runs beautifully, until it gets hot, then it idles to high, and you have to manually (foot on brake, letting off of the clutch at the same time) bring the idle down.
So the engine obviously has a few issues, but the question is, is that the reason?
Or...
Was is the installation of the plugs, wires, and cap and motor?
I don't know if my father put in the plugs to torque, or even if there are factory spec on spark plug torque. They should be gaped correctly (bought pre-gaped, i think), but I don't know, I didn't install them!
So please... anyone!

Oh, by the way, not sure if it matters, but when the exhaust is disconnected, it runs better all around!
A: thats kinda hard to follow but sounds like with pvc helping and then to much help that theirs two plug wires crossed ,itll start but hesitate but wont have power top out 35 mph,or so recheck wire routing,, if dual coil ? high sides out on one will do same. on the plugs popin out heli coil or extender with locktite , if plugs tapin closed carbon build up will close by contact also pin ready to turn loose,, ease piston to top dc, small wire brush,,scrape around clean deposit, may remove contact carbon, on the exaust sounds like pluged ,caved in potato in exayst. probly converter plugged exaust flow replace or sleeve til fixin,
