Q: is a used 1989 toyota tercel in good running condition for $600 a good deal?
i am 18 years old and looking for a cheap reliable car that can get me to work and soon to college. my friends mom is selling me this car for $600and says it has never broke down on her. it has about 140k milege but it just looks embarrising to drive when everyone else has nice modern cars.

A: Doesn't sound like a lot of miles for that year of car. Toyota's are reliable cars, and if it has been maintained with even the least bit of regularity, I would say this is a excellent beater deal! Give it the once over and if it looks OK, wave $500 at her and see what happens.

Q: Can Anyone tell me where to get a diagram for emissions control for my 1989 toyota tercel. I cant find one?

A: Go to your local parts store and buy a "Chilton's" or "Haynes" manual for your model car, should cost you about $15. But it is well worth it, because it'll tell your how to diagnose and repair almost any problem you can have with your car...Good luck!

Q: 1989 toyota tercel carberater problem need help?
had carb. rebuilt but still have gas come out over flow holes in carb when i try to start car it . will flood itself out and stop running after a few min. need help ??? i have had the float adjusted and it still does the same thing flood out it did it before the carb was rebuilt and after if somebody no what the adjustments suppost to be set at ??

A: Your float valve in the Carburetor is stuck open. Picture the thing in your toilet tank that shuts off the water when it's full. Your carb has basically the same thing. The float valve is right inside the carb where the fuel line goes in. If it did not do this until after you rebuilt the carb then it is not installed correctly. But first, tap the carb with a hammer right above where the fuel line enters and see it that unsticks it.

Q: 1989 Toyota tercel keeps over heating-rplcd radiator --water keeps going down??
I run the heat and it works for awhile and than the water level in the radiator goes down and the heater is not warm....any suggestions(other than drive it off a cliff) would be appreciated....

A: the first answer that u got was my first suggestion, watch and see while its running, is there alot of steam coming out the exhaust??? that would indicate cracked head or blown head gasket. another way to check is to take the oil dipstick out and look at the color of the oil in it. if it is black it is ok, but if it is milky or has spots of white floating in it, then your water is getting into oil through a crack in the head or head gasket. also don't run that car for long overheated!!!! you have aluminum heads and if it is just a bad gasket, you will turn it into a bad head real fast. aluminum warps easily under high heat

Q: does anyone know anywhere I can get a passanger side mirror for a 1989 toyota tercel???

A: i would give your local junk yard a call, they may have your make and model in the lot and all you will have to do is have it painted and attached, good luck in your search.

Q: Toyota Tercel 1989 starting it up? wants to quit on me!?
It's a used car so I don't know if this is the way it should go or not. When I turn the key in the ignition the engine starts but dies if I don't give it gas. Somebody told me that older cars dont have fuel injection or some other thing so I have to give it a lil gas when I start it. So I do this and when I start it it runs for a while with me steadily giving it gas not reving it too high and then it starts to stall so I give it more gas to save it and and up saving it 2 or 3 times in total. Is that normal? Should I let it die and try again? Rev the shit out of it when I start it up? Periodically rev it as I start it up? In all it takes about a min before I feel safe the car will not die on me as I drive away. The car works fine otherwise. So is this normal or am I doing something wrong here? I actually went to that water site. I am not a believer yet. I remember enough from chemistry to know that some serious advances must have been made because I don't remember that being possible. Water can give off electricity but it is so little and takes forever.

A: Well this sounds like the car needs some TLC... you might want to start be checking the Fuel filter as this might be clogged... thus straining the fuel to the engine... you might also need to change the rotor/cap/spark plugs/wires,- a TUNE UP! This car might even need a cold start injector replaced...but start at the less expensive points first... you car should not act that way when you try starting it... best wishes.
