Q: 2001 Toyota tacoma, a lot of trouble with the drum brakes?
I have had numerous problems with the drum brakes on my '01 tacoma. I even took it to the dealer, which I thought would be a good idea, but proved otherwise. Basically the drum keeps on wearing out-of-round, therefore causing a pulsation when the brakes are applied. I've been 3 times to different mechanics and still no solution. The brakes also make a constant clicking sound. Has this happened to any other tacoma owners?
A: Sounds like you need to have the axle checked to make sure it is not bent. The axle has a large flange on the end of it and the drum mounts on it. If it doesn't turn true, the drum wobbles back and forth while turning and can wear improperly and induce vibration. That would also account for the clicking. If the drums were machined too coarsly, the groove in the surface can cause the shoes to "screw out" and cause a clicking noise. It is very unusual for the drums to "wear" out-of-round, but if the adjusters are too tight, the drums could over-heat and warp. Also if they get real hot and are then quenched in water, they can warp as well. If the proportioning valve is out of adjustment, you will either experience pre-mature lock-up or insufficient rear braking (won't lock even in panic stop with empty bed), but it should not cause a vibration as the adjustment is static once the bed is loaded. Are you sure the vibration is from the rear? Next time it is vibrating, try using the emergency brake by itself and see if the vibration is there. It if is, it is from the rear. If not, it is from the front, a much more likely scenario. Sometimes it is very difficult to determine where it actually is. Good luck!
Q: Can an '89 toyota camper shell also fit onto a 2001 toyota tacoma?
I need to know before purchasing it from the owner of the '89 toyota truck. I need to know if it'll fit on my '01 tacoma.
A: Just get the measurements of the camper shell. If the dimension fit on the new truck then yeah you can. Just make sure its aligns up with the new truck
Q: what size speakers does 2001 toyota tacoma have?
i have a 2001 toyota tacoma extra cab and i need to replace the speakers but i don't know what sizes they are... front and rear
A: Front Door: 6 x 8

Rear Side Panel: 5 x 7
Q: How and where, do you add transmission fluid to a 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
I found a dipstick (not the engine oil stick)with a T-handle, but it's not labeled and it's on the passenger side - it says on the end of this stick "Dexron II. Is this the power steering fluid stick or the trans stick?
There is no reference in the owner's manual to trand fluid. Is that possible? You can't add trans fluid to a Toyota???
A: If its a long stick it's transmission fluid. You add through that hole with a funnel. Careful-don't overfill.
Q: About how much would it cost to put dual exhaust on a 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
I want an exhaust system that will make my truck LOUUDD, but I dont know where to look or how much money it is going to cost me.
A: I have the same truck. XD A trd exhaust system is going to run about 450.00 they only make single exhaust tips. so you would have to change the tip if you want the duel exhaust look. The other option would be to go to a muffler shop, and have them custom make you one. I think that would be cheaper, but the quality is not going to be as good. It cost me a little over 2000 to add a trd race header and exhaust. And did you also know that adding the trd super charger gives you better gas mileage. :)
Q: What electrical stuff would i need to upgrade in a 2001 toyota tacoma to run a 2000w rms re xxx 12 inch sub?
A: If your total system power is 1200 watts RMS or more, you will need to:
1. Upgrade the alternator to a high output alternator
2. Upgrade to a yellow top battery
3. Upgrade the "Big 3" - that is to replace (or add to) the power wire between the battery and alternator, the ground from the battery to the chassis and the ground strap from the engine/tranny to the chassis with at least 2 AWG wire.
Failure to do this will result in the early death of the alternator as it will eventually fail.
Here is a guide that will calculate what size alternator and power wires you need http://www.box.net/shared/uchv4dbk88
You will need Microsoft Excel. If you don't have Excel, use this link http://www.box.net/shared/nkkw1dhk4g
A second battery is never a good idea as it's an added strain on the alternator to charge two batteries AND supply power for the car. The ONLY time a second battery is useful is if the audio system is to be used with the car off.
A capacitor is only good so far as the audio system isn't trying to pull too much from the electrical system. A cap doesn't provide more power, it's designed to 'stiffen' the voltage to the amp, nothing else. If the current isn't there, a cap won't help.
The alternator must have at least 20% more amperage power than the entire vehicle and sound system combined for a cap to be of benefit which is ironically the same requirements for an amp to be efficient.

moofa,
Don't you realize that 11.8 volts is UNDER the charging requirements for a battery? This is why my statement was made. Your system needed a HO alternator.
Q: I have a 2001 toyota tacoma, i want to chage the rear drum brakes, but i cant seem to get the drum off, advice
Ive tried to loosen everything i can think of. i know how to do the brake replacement, but have never ran into this problem before. do i need to use some manpower and just knock the cover off? is there anything im missing that i might need to loosen?
A: Make sure that you release the parking brake. (Be sure to chock the wheels, please.) And, you may have to remove the plug from the backing plate and use a screw driver (or brake adjustment tool) to back the shoes away from the drum. Also, check to see if there some little clips on the lug studs to hold the drum on.
If all that checks out, try using a "dead blow" mallet on the drum in various spots to coax it. Good Luck.

Q: Where is the transmission filler on 2001 Toyota Tacoma?
The truck has a transmission dipstick. I need to know where, exactly, do you add transmission fluid on this engine? It can't be on the pan, how can you fill it from the bottom?

Q: What are some good replacement speakers for a 2001 Toyota Tacoma Xtra Cab (sizes and brands)?
I have factory speakers now. I can do some modifications to the mounts if necessary.
A: Since your truck takes 5 1/4" speakers in the front doors and 6x8" speakers behind the seats, here is my recommendations:
For the front, if price is an issue, I'd go with either the Blaupunkt Pcxb-542 (great power handling, LOW price) or the Pioneer Ts-a1370r (very clear sounding full-range speaker). If price is NOT an issue, I'd get the Boston Acoustics SX55 (very forgiving when adding an amp) or go "all out" and get a Polk MMC5250 component set.
For the rear fill, again if price is an issue, get the Pioneer TS-a6871r. Otherwise, go with the Infinity Reference 6810cs.
