Q: My 2000 toyota Tacoma has been squealing like a pig! How do I stop it?
Does your Tacoma squeal when you let off of the gas after about 30mph or so? Does it do it intermittently? Does it sound like it's coming from the back of the truck? Is your Tacoma between the year 1998 and 2001? Has this been driving you insane for years and the mechanics can't figure it out?

A: I've had this problem for years and it's such an easy fix. The drive shaft has two grease fittings near the differential. One is inside the U-joint and the other is outside of it. Grease those and you'll be in business. The squeaking comes from the drive shaft being on and off load. The drive shaft moves back and forth and up down when you accelerate and decelerate. When you decelerate it takes the drive shaft off load and begins to rub against itself. That's where the squeal is coming from!! My truck's grease fittings were completely empty. I had to pump the grease gun about 15 times to fill it up. Now it runs like a champ.

Q: How do we turn off the check engine light in a 2000 Toyota Tacoma and in a 2000 Chevy Silverado 1500 PU?
Okay, We have 2 vehicles that need to be inspected and have been told that they can not be inspected with the check engine light on. We have fixed the problems in both vehicles but the light remains on. My G-ma gave us the Tacoma and said the light been on and off since she got it but, I've had it for about 3 years now and it's been on the whole time. My husbands truck (the Chevy) had an exhaust problem and he fixed it and his check engine light will not go off either. His is standard. Please help me!!! If you have any more questions or need more info to help just write and ask. Please and thank you!!!

A: cheap way to go is if you can remove the bulb from the console , this requires nimble touch and not to damage your truck. remove the entire clock, remember where the check engine light bulb is remove it and shine a flash light through it to make shure replace the clock and ur good to go make sure u get it checked out u don't want a simple sensor running your entire engine if i am correct the Chevy carries a LCD display screen u might have to carry it to the dealer simplest solution carry ur trucks to a garage and service them

Q: How do I install a starter for a 2000 toyota tacoma 2.4L?
I'm not a mechanic and would like to replace the starter on my truck. I have no previous mechanical experience, but after looking around on the internet, I feel confident this is a job I can do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: Look at the old one... figure out how many bolts hold it in. Figure out how many electrical connections need to be removed.... DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!! Then take off the electrical connections and the bolts. Reverse order with new starter.

Q: Do you have to remove the engine to change a timing belt on a 2000 toyota tacoma?
I was told that Tocoma timing belts had to be changed around 90k before they broke, damaging the engine. Is this even true? And how much trouble is it to do it yourself given mechanic experience?

A: DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF. Seriously, I think your Tocoma should have the 3.4 liter V6, which I have in my 2002 4Runner. Its a big production to do it. I had it done at the dealer. Good plan, right? Guess what - After driving about 150 miles, it fell off! They didn't tighten the crank shaft properly (those were the words of the mechanic I took it too near where it died, as well as the dealer, after they checked it out). Well, too bad for the dealer, they had to come pick it up (140 miles door to door each way for them) and then they did have to yank the engine out to fix the mess. Its an expensive service at the dealer (about $500, if I remember correctly), but you can probably get your local mechanic to do it for less.

Q: how much is it to get a spare key for my 2000 toyota tacoma?
is there anywhere else i can buy the key besides the dealer. does this type of key comes with a chip?

A: look at the key if it has a small black square sticking out from it along the side then it has a chip in it and the only place to get them is from the dealer cause the chip has to be programmed to your car and will cost around 80-100 dollars usually if not then you can get copies of your key almost anywhere and will probably cost 5 or 6 dollars at the most

Q: How much should I expect to spend on a 100000 service on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma?

A: 100000 service is a tire rotation/oil change. 30k, 60k,90k,120 are major services($400-500 at the dealer). every 15 is an "intermediate"service(200-300 at the dealer). Have you ever changed the timing belt? If not, do it now. Change the water pump at the same time, need it or not. Its a little more money now, but saves going back to do it again later.

Q: How to change spark plugs on a 2000 toyota Tacoma?

A: v6,3.4 ltr. start with a cold engine.remove air tube between air box and throttle body.unplug and unbolt the coil packs.pull them directly up.a little twist back and forth may be needed.do not twist to hard.an extention 6-11'' will be needed.remove plugs. on driver side, remove the wires,a twist may be neccasary.using an exteniton remove plugs.5/8 sparkplug socket needed.they or at least one ,back,is harder to get to but possible.dont pull on the wire itself.use some anti-sieze on the threads going back together.two different metals causes electrolosis.or simply it will sieze the plug in place.do not over tighten the plugs. 4 cyl.2.4/2.7 remove wires.you will have to finagle the wires around but you do not have to remove breather hose.just be carefull do not pull on wires or you will be buying a new set.extention,socket,anti-sieze.needed. timing is computer controlled,no since checking or trying to reset it.if there is a prob with timing it is in the chain or timing belt,v6.

Q: How do I adjust the parking brake on a 2000 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner? It failed inspection b/c it doesn't hold

A: Eric is definitely on the right track. You don't want to adjust the e-brake until you know the shoes are adjusted correctly. When you insert the screw driver into the backing plate, rotate the "gear", or star wheel, so that the side closest to you goes up. In other words, stick the tip of the screw driver under the bottom edge of the wheel and lever it upwards. Do that to both sides. You should raise the truck to do it so that you can gauge how tight you get them. Be sure to put it on stands or something safe. Or, if more convenient, you can pull the wheels, and the drums and turn the gear until you can just barely get the drum back on. That will be close enough to hold well. Hope this helps. godBless!

Q: grindeing noise coming from the wheels area from a 2000 toyota tacoma while driving 1-10mph. HELPPPP ?
When I accalarate or slow down it only makes the grinding noise when I'm going 1-10 miles anything faster you don't hear anything. It feels like when I'm breaking its lauder when slowing down from 10mph. I tried putting it in neutral and it doesn't make a difference. Anyone know what might be wrong? I dont think its the front rotors because it seems like the most of the vibration is coming from the back end.

A: It sounds to me like your front brake pad's just hit metal to metal. In other word's, your front brake pad's are worn down to nothing like an eraser on a #2 pencil and the steel is just ripping the paper now!(so to speak) Get them checked and don't drive it except to the shop if that. You can easily ruin the brake rotor.

Q: Is a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with 200000 miles to much?
Im looking at buying this truck but im not sure if it has to many miles on it becasue it has 201000 miles on it but looks new everywhere on the truck it has most of its service records But how many more miles could I put on this truck if I where to buy it? (On average how long do the engines last)

A: These trucks last forever. My father and I owned the 4X4 pickup back in 92, before it was even called a Tacoma, it was just called the pickup. He worked on power lines way back in the wilderness, and drove several thousand KM's every week. I learned to drive stick on it, it was driven hard, offroad, and when my dad got stuck on a logging road without gas, he put in mixed gas (mixed 20:1 with oil for a chainsaw, very bad for engines). In the 10 or so years he had that job, and I drove it (he got it new) we put 615,000 KM's on that truck. That's 382,000 Miles. And that's not all. It didn't die @ 615, it was still in great shape. He sold it to some hippes up north who were into picking mushrooms and stuff for $5,600. Great truck. I've also just bought a 1988 Toyota Corolla SR5 with 282,000 KM on it. Runs like new. You can get huge milage out of a Toyota too. Just follow these steps. 1) Oil changes. This is just like gas, it part of the cost of owning a vehicle, so don't put it off. Ever. Put it in your calendar as something to do every 3 months TOPS. 2) Don't beat the snot outta it. The nicer you treat it, the longer it will last. That doesn't mean it's not tough, but any piece of steel or aluminum is just so strong. 3) Learn to drive it properly. These trucks have plenty of grunt, so get used to driving it at lower RPM's than a car. You can easily cruise in 4th gear doing 50 or 60 km/h @ 2000 RPM. Don't downshift into 1st while moving forward, don't attempt to drive forward when the car is still rolling backward, (3 point turns etc) 4) Treat it right. Take it to a mechanic every 1-2 years for a checkup. Run fuel injector cleaner though it every 2-4 months. 5) Last thing... make sure the last owner wasn't an abuser. Be picky, ask for reciepts, where he got his oil changed, and what type of oil, (even better, ask to take the truck to a mechanic AFTER you've figured out where he changes his oil. Go to wherever he takes it to get the oil changed, and change the oil. $30-50 oil only. While you're there, ask what should be done and if anything's been negelected. If they're a shop like Midas, Mr. Lube or any other chain, they'll tell you. Then take it to the mechanic.) If at any point you feel like the truck isn't performing like it should, or you feel like the owner isn't being honest, or is too eager to sell, walk. Don't get suckered into buying his abused problem child. If it all checks out and the number is right, get it. You won't be dissapointed in a Tacoma. Best of luck, Ryan
