Q: Where is the best place to get parts for my 1996 Toyota Tacoma??
A: I would stick with Genuine Toyota parts. These can be purchased/ordered through and Toyota dealership's Parts department. Even though your truck is out of warranty, all genuine Toyota parts you get will come with a 1 year warranty regardless of mileage. There is no one else out there that can match that.
Q: 1996 Toyota Tacoma Reviews?
The boyfriend and I are looking at purchasing a 1996 Toyota Tacoma Ext Cab - we're going to go look at it this weekend. I'm looking to get some reviews on this type of truck.
We currently have a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer - which has been nothing but a lemon, and we're scared to get another lemon!
This is what the ad says...
"I am selling my 1996 Toyota Tacoma ext cab, burgundy in color. It has 186000 km on it, and is inspected until March 2009. It recently had a motor swap, and could use minor work(new crank sensor, washer fluid jet), but inspection was no problem. There is some rust on the driver side wheel well. It is a 4 cylinder, automatic transmission, rear wheel drive, heat works great, and runs great. It includes a sliding back window, sunroof, and cap. It has a mint interior, and was lightly driven. "
He is asking for $6,000 obo (We're thinking around $5,500 or so as there is repairs to be done). Does that sound like a fair price?
Thanks so much everyone!!
Also too...I understand the truck will not be in PERFECT shape...I work at a Chevrolet Dealership, so I have access to new and used parts of any brand cheep...
A: Normally I'd say go for it, but that price is way too high. If you have any kind of rust, it will cost you tousands of dollars to fix. Do yourself a huge favor and pass this one up. Even if they were offereing it for $2,000, you're still up the creek if your head gaskets go out or you need to replace an O2 sensor (or 4!). If you can squeeze it in, you should be able to find one even w/V-6, 4X4 for $8K-$10K.
The other thing is the maintenance. You are supposed to change out the diff oil every 30Kmi, Timing belt 70Kmi, and tranny fluid/filter every 70Kmi. Unless all that was done and on time, you are running a huge risk of having just another lemon even if it is a Toyota.
Q: what is the correct spark plug gap for a 1996 toyota tacoma?

Q: I have a 1996 Toyota tacoma that only starts with the throttle open all the way, what could cause this?
A: bad idle air control motor.
Q: I recieved this trouble code on my 1996 Toyota Tacoma---Catalyst efficiency low-bank 1.What does it mean.?
I have already changed the spark plugs as well as the wires.I put fuel injector cleaner in it as well.Is it true that all is left is to change the cat converter?
A: Unfortunately, most of the time. Your truck has 2 oxygen sensors, one ahead of and one behind the catalyst. The computer compares the reading between the two sensors, looking for a big difference in readings. If it doesn't see that, it judges that the catalyst is bad, and it is usually right. You might want to get someone who has the equipment (usually the dealer) to graph the output of the two sensors to compare them and verify the problem. I have also seen where a Mass Air Flow Sensor can fail and mimmick this problem, but that is rare. The good news is that with a 96, the computer is not sensitive enough but that you can put a Midas catalyst on there and get by. (If it were newer, you would need to go with a Toyota part.) Good luck and God Bless!
Q: Does an infant seat fit in a 1996 Toyota Tacoma?
A: I had a 97 Tacoma w/ the extended cab, and I used to put an infant seat in the rear passenger seat. The 96 is probably the same. The best way to find out would be to take your seat to the dealer (or seller) and try it out.
