Q: Where can I find stock side view mirrors for my 1988 toyota supra?
I had a minor accident and cracked the mirror (not the glass, the plastic part) and now my mirror wont adjust side to side (it has an electric motor for it) I was wondering where I can find these mirrors so I can replace it.
A: Have you tried the local junk yards? Otherwise the Parts Department at your local Toyota dealer might be able to order it, and then it should arrive in a few days.
If the price is too high/expensive in your opinion, then you might want to consider buying it and all any other parts you need from the best deals on the internet for Toyota genuine parts are at 2 Toyota dealers in Texas: (i) Toyota of Dallas and (ii) Toyota of Richardson (TX) where prices are 30% of MSRP plus S&H. We have owned 5 Toyotas brand new and I have been dealing with them for years (unless it's an emergency or small dollar value) via facsimile and/or internet and they take credit card. They ship everywhere via Big Brown UPS and might possibly ship overseas.
At both of their websites, you just specify your Toyota vehicle the Year Model etc and then it is broken down into several categories and can also provide blowup expansion diagram so you know you order right part.
Hope the Above Info Helps & Best of Luck!
Q: 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Blown Engine Question?
I have found a 1988 Supra Turbo in very good condition except that the connecting rod is through the block. The car was not obviously abused. Is it possible to put a non turbo in the car? If not, any ideas where to find a used motor for it? I have looked in the obvious places near Philadelphia.
A: would not suggest putting non turbo engine in due to you would need change wiring harness and computer and do alot off problematic work to get running what you can do is get a motor out off a toyota cressida and use the bottom end (block, crank, rods, and pistons) same bottom end in both engines
Q: 1988 toyota supra why does my water run hot?
I have a 1988 toyota supra and it runs hot even though there was water in the radiator, i can hear water in my dash making water fall sounds
it also was steaming at the dash and not at the radiator i only drove a mile and it got hot
it also has gray smoke coming out of tail pipe sometime when im mostly at idle
A: MkIII 1987 to 1991 Supras are known for blowing a head gasket. Here's what you can do to properly diagnose the problem.
1. If there is gray smoke or steam out the tailpipe, AND your water level in your radiator is low, you have a head gasket problem.
You indicated there seems to be water sloshing around in the dash with steam coming out.
This tells me you also have a defective heater core..
I would also recommend changing the thermostat AND fan clutch when you do these repairs. Typically the 3.0 engine is good for 500K miles without a rebuild if properly maintained. I have an 1984 with 250k on it ( same engine design) and it goes on long trips every year. If you do these thing along with a good tuneup, you can expect a long life out of the engine
take care
Q: 1988 Toyota Supra to 2005 Toyota Celica engine swap?
I wanna swap a 1988 Toyota Supra with a 2000-2005 Toyota Celica engine cuz its cheaper on gas- is it possible? cuz the Supra should have a wider base to fit in the Celica engine, and why shouldn't I just buy a Celica? it looks like a shoe...
btw, if I do come across as bein' offensive, I apologize for that- (I just don't like what they did to the new Celica- but thats just me)
A: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_supra#Mark_III_.281986-1992.29
It is possible - but not the best choice. The Supra is heavy, and the Celica engine is a small high revving one - not a good match. Due to this, you would probably would not to see any improvement in fuel economy.
If you are primarily concerned about fuel economy, a VW turbo diesel and Toyota 22R 5 speed manual, with an adapter from ACME:
http://www.acmeadapters.com/about.php
The 1.9 liter VW TDi is capable of 300 ft-lbs of torque - more than the Turbo Supra.
A cheaper modification that will greatly improve highway fuel economy is taller gears.
If you have a manual, for city driving, try up shifting at lower rpm, which helps tremendously, like 1200 - 1500 rpm, and use full throttle.

Q: 1988 Toyota Supra turbo engine cuts out when turbo is maxed out and between 3 and 4 thou RPM's?
Hello I have a 88 supra turbo and i'm not sure what is wrong it seems like when the turbo kicks in the engine starts running badly almost like it is missing and when in 3rd gear and above when you go over 3000 rpm's when it is floored it will cut out then after 4000 rpm's it will be fine again also my gas milage is really bad too i get approx 8 miles to the gallon it seems to be running rich cause it smokes a lil bit of black smoke anyways if anyone knows what the prob is i would appricate it cause if not i'm gonna sell it cause the gas milage is killin me ... thank you Mike
please contact me at tarstrek78@aol.com thank you
A: Hello, Mike. Don't listen to anyone here, as they don't know anything about the 7m-gte motor and or the ct26 turbo. I've owned SEVERAL 7m-gte cars, and currently own three of them.
You or the previous owner have turned up the boost, and you're hitting Fuel Cut Off . Since you don't seem to know your car all that well, my advice is to have a Supra person turn down the boost, and verify that all other supporting modifications are in place, before turning the boost up again. You're also running super rich, which accounts for the extremely low gas mileage. Don't continue driving it in this condition, as you're on your way to ruining your engine.
Feel free to email me, if this site allows you to contact me. Or post your contact info, if you'd like.

Q: 1988 toyota supra non turbo?
The battery on my car died 3 weeks ago, and i just got a new one today, But now she wont turn over, she does sometimes then she just dies, sometimes there is a lot of smoke coming out the back, and one time i saw coming out around the air intake area. when it starts or trys to its really rough, and sometimes makes a kinda grinding sound.. plzz help me, if i know what it is i can fix it, im just stumped
A: As a car owner that does his own maintenence and repairs, including an automatic to 5-speed swap on my 1987 RX7, I would highly advise you to direct your query to a fellow Supra owner, via a Supra Forum. Google for one and you might find your answer in an old thread.
It sounds like your spark plugs might be fouled or gapped incorrectly. Your best bet is to hop on a Supra Forum and look there for more information. Fellow owners are always wanting to help out!
Good Luck
Q: 1988 toyota supra body work?
i need to know if the bumpers (front and rear) and the factory spoiler for a turbo model are plastic or fiberglass.
also if you have any recommendations for a product to use to fill in small nics here and there on the front bumper from miscellaneous things like gravel etc.
i did buy this one product claiming to be a "fiberglass resin jelly" that says it can be used on: metal, wood, plastic, and fiberglass. i believe it's made by a company similar to bond-o or it is bond-o. let me know if you think that will work.
thanks in advance.
A: Often times, body panels are FRP, or Fiberglass reinforced plastic. This really doesn't make a difference as to if they can be fixed or not. I recommend properly mixed Bondo, it's a staple of bodyshops around the world. True Bondo is a polyester resin cured with dibenzoyl peroxide paste
Q: 1988 Toyota Supra good first car?
I'm thinking about buying this at a dealer..
It has 130,000 miles on it, automatic, non-turbo, looks nice..
I'm test driving it tomorrow.. I'm 17 looking for a first car..just to get me to school, and work..
There selling for 2900.. I'm going to offer 2000 I'm planning..
Overall good condition.. by what they say..runs good they say..
Anything I should be looking for when I test drive it? and what are the likely problems I will experience because it being 20 years old?
A: just to get facts straight. the supra is not a rotary engined car, but rather an inline-6. i do not know a whole lot about the non-turbo automatic, but the 7m-ge engine is pretty good. I highly hilghy suggest getting a mechanic that knows his way around that model supra and have him/her look it over just to be on the safe side. You dont want to pull away from the dealer and then next week have a shot tranny. as for the milage, it is decently high so try and find out if the oil has been changed every 3K miles or so. If not you are looking at some problems that will result in you losing money rather than saving it. Hope this helped and good luck!
