Q: what cold air intake will fit a 1987 Toyota Supra? I'd like to know about the piping.?
I need to know what Cold Air Intake will fit on a 1987 Toyota Supra. I hear it's from a Honda, but I don't know what model. I've tried to find the cold air intake for the supra, and I only get the filter and not the whole kit, I need the complete kit. Does anybody have an answer for me? Thanks in advance.....Diggy
A: you cant put the filter on right off the intake manifold!!!!
if you do the car wont run, there is a VAF (vane air flow sensor) in the intake pipe close to the air filter. when you start the car air flows past it opening the "vane" in the VAF thereby supplying the fuel pump with power along with other things.
as far as getting a cold air intake... i bought a cold air intake for my 03 Tiburon and i decided to make it a short ram intake so i have a piece of aluminum pipe left over from the tib... i bought a 87 supra off craigslist and it didn't have any intake piping, i bought it as a non running car because the guy didnt know it NEEDS a intake pipe running to the intake from the VAF. i threw my left over piece of pipe on, and 10 min after he droped the car off for me i got the car running.
best bet is unbolt the air filter box from the VAF and put a cone filter on that and it will work out good
Q: 1987 Toyota Supra Turbo. Can a faulty head casket cause the car to overheat?
When the car gets hot, it pushes the water to the over flow tank.
A: I just love when some people think they're cute by trying to lead people into injury or harm.
Yes a blown head gasket can cause an overheating situation. One of the things it does is keep the coolant in the water jacket. It also keeps combustion gases in the cylinders. Worst cases? Combustion gases leak into water jacket forcing coolant to expel out of the cap or overflow jug. The coolant can also leak into the crankcase and ruin bearings and jam lifters. So don't listen to Lil'John. He trolls around giving wisecracks trying to sound smug.

Q: how do you reconnect the speedometer cable on a 1987 Toyota Supra?
Duh, the speedometer doesn't work..
A: Hi
If the car has cruise control, you will need to check three connections
1. Check to see if thr cable is connected to the speedometer via the firewall.
2. Check to see if the cable is connected to the cruise control speed unit
3. Check to see if the second cable is connected to the cruise control speed unit.
if all of these cables are connected, then you will have to check the last connection near the transmission where the cable enters the trannny. This will require jacking the car up to get under the vehicle.
Q: I have a 1987 toyota supra. When I accelerate my car shakes, its like its lugging all the time. What do i do?
A: I agree with Lee, although you probably don't need a distributor. Also, those cars have a tendency to leak oil in the valley between the two cam housings. The oil tends to flow into the spark plug recesses, and the oil shorts the fire to ground, causing a misfire. This is a real possibility. But what you are describing definitely sounds like a misfire under load, any of what we are describing could cause that.
Good Luck and God Bless!

Q: i have a 1987 toyota supra, i was wondering what to do..?
i was driving the car pretty hard and then it sounded and felt like the transmission fell out of the car, its still goes in all the gears but the cluch peadel feals really soft. Dose anyone know what it could be? i think its the pressure plate or the throw out barring, can anyone help me???
A: Does it go into gear running, easily?
If it does, check the slave cylinder fluid .....then check under the car for brake fluid dripping from the cylinder on the clutch arm.
That clutch arm just rest on a small metal ball and some times they ware badly, and sometimes completely though. so check that the arm is not touching the bell housing. (pull back the leather/rubber cover and peek in.
Make sure the clutch Master cylinder is full and moves the arm when you press on the clutch.....if all that is OK.
You may need a clutch.

Q: 1987 toyota supra turbo, will crank over but wont start?
it wont even start a little i have good voltage to my coils and good primary resistance on the coils, in the process of putting it way last winter i hooked the jumper cables wrong and blew my 100 amp main fuse i replaced the fuse but know it wont start ANY IDEAS?
A: Do you have spark though? I assume not?
I would check ALL the fuses under the hood, and under the kick panel on the inside. Generally before the 100A goes, a couple inside will go also..ECU and HEAD are the two common ones to go along with the 100A main.
Q: 1987 Toyota Supra Oil pressure.?

Q: 1987 Toyota Supra, almost never starts?
This car has turned into a backyard lawn ornament, and I'm ready to sell it, but I thought I'd ask on here. Basically it almost always won't start.. if it does start, it runs great, but for a while it wouldn't crank.. and now it cranks but never starts. I have replaced: battery, starter, spark plugs, wires, and last time I replaced the ignitor box, which fixed the problem for 5 days, then it stopped starting again. It appears I've replaced every element of the starting system other than than the wiring harness itself. Any ideas? Could it just be old brittle wiring?
Thanks
A: it's a very nice car. and if you have it fixed you will get considerably more for it. andi would assume it may be the wiring/ecu, but that is just from past experiences. running in fair condition you can get about 2-3 thousand for it, if you are patient
Q: 1987 Toyota Supra 7M-GTE problems?
id just like to know if there is any inherent problems with this kind of engine, or this kind of car in general. there hasnt been any recalls and ive read something about headgaskets...what would i have to replace to 100% fix that problem? any info and\or links would be appreciated. thanks!
A: The problems with this engine is mostly with the head gasket. The one you want to replace it with is one of Greddys. You can find one @ www.racerwheel.com price ranging from 168 to 200 bucks depending on the thickness. The key to this gasket is to make sure you tighten it to proper ft pounds. If I'm not mistaken its 75.
The next problem you may have is the bottom end holding up under boost. You may want to invest and rebuild the bottom end before replacing the head.
Some have complained about the turbo being bad which is an easy fix. Rebuild or replace it. Also you want to get rid of the rubber piping and get custom intercooling piping because of the rubber eventually collapsing.
Chang the spark plugs to brand NGK.
The 7MGTE is a very good motor if you properly upgrade the mentioned parts. Many will try to get you to sway towards a 1JZ upgrade. The motor is a better motor but be aware that the swap is an expensive project needing you to locate a lot of parts from Japan and to customize alot of parts for the set up. I've made up to a little over 400 HP out of my 87 Targa so far and the 7M is capable of a lot more.
