Q: i have a 2006 toyota solara and i would like to add a cold air intake?
what is recommended for more horsepower gain and a nice noise? i currently have 230HP and i would like to add some more ponies. i added a K&N air filter but i dont really notice anything.

A: I believe injen has a kit, also. But I am not sure about TRD. I am not aware of any major aftermarket support for the 3.3 V6. the previous 3.0 Solara had a TRD supercharger availiable. But the the newer Solara is heavier, more luxury and more refined engine, but more lexus like. Toyota engines are hard to extract power from. You have a big engine. Your exhaust system is probably mandrel bent, if you have the V6, and even though it does not look like it. You have a factory stainless steel exhaust system. To get "nice noise" Invest in a TRD stainless steel muffler. You should get some more HP and a nice sound. A computer reflash is expensive and nets very little power for your car. The only other option for your luxury coupe is forced induction. A very low boost turbo or supercharger. But that is costly and would be a custom job.

Q: Does anyone know who makes a trailer hitch for a 2006 Toyota Solara.?
Mine is an SE with the rear ground effects and one for a 2006 will not work without cutting them and modifying them.

A: Hypothetically, both Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tie make a class II hitch that fits an '06 Solara without needing to cut your ground effects. They do both fit over your exhaust; if you enlarge the image at the link below, you'll see that they sit low enough to clear the aero, although you won't have a ton of clearance left.

Q: Gas Mileage issues 2006 Toyota Solara Sport SE?
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a recent car issue I'm having. My 2006 Toyota Solara Sport SE has traditionally gotten 400 miles on a full tank of gas. My Solara also has an indicator telling me how many more miles I can go before I will run out of gas. Today, I drove 1 mile down the street to the supermarket. When I started my car my gas gauge showed I had 1/2 a tank of gas and the indicator noted 177 miles before I ran out of gas, which makes sense because I had 1/2 a tank of gas. After I drove 1/2 a mile my indicator dropped from 177 miles to 94 miles. It immediately concerned me, because I've always relied on the indicator to figure out how much gas I had to work with. After I left the grocery store I drove another 1/2 mile and my indicator dropped from 94 miles to 60 miles. My gauge still showed 1/2 a tank. I'm not leaking any gas, and I'm not sure if its the range or the gauge that is malfunctioning. What could cause this? For reference, despite the fact that this was a short 1 mile trip the movement was highly unusual, and in the 2 years I've owned the car the indicator did not have ANY history of doing this. It had traditionally moved 1 mile at a time, and never had such significant jumps.

A: Gas gauges do not often develop faults and gas leaks are betrayed by a strong smell of gas inside the car. So it is probably your indicator that has gone wrong and will have to be replaced. You can easily check this by looking up in your driver's book how much gas your tank is supposed to hold, taking the readings from both instruments, filling up with gas and seeing how much gas was needed and which instrument was correct.

Q: Where is the oil filter on a 2006 Toyota Camry-Solara?
Have searched for over an hour and can't seem to find it...please help.

A: Under the car next to the oil pan

Q: Which car is better, 2007 Toyota Camry hybrid or 2006 Toyota Solara SLE sedan?

A: The question you should be asking is "What is a better car for my needs"? Both cars are pretty sound in terms of quality and reliability. First of all, the Solara is a coupe, not a sedan. If you like the swoopiness/sportiness of a coupe and can live with the drawbacks of a couple (less interior room), go for it. It is also available as a soft-top convertible if you like such cars, but at the expense of trunk capacity. Note that "sportiness" is relative --- the performance of a Solara when compared with other coupes such as a BMW 3-series is hardly sporty, but it's a lot less money and probably more reliable and easier to maintain. OTOH, the Camry is anything BUT a sporty car and is often considered as an appliance--- basic, practical and reliable transportation. If you want pizazz, go somewhere else. However, if you need a sedan, the Camry is the way to go (for carrying passengers). However, be aware that the Camry Hybrid's rear seat does not fold down for expanded trunk room and the trunk will be slightly smaller than the LE, SE or XLE models. The XLE model's trunk only has a pass through in the armrest area for long cargo (e.g. skis). As for hybrids ---- yes, they get better fuel economy than conventional gasoline engines. However, there is a price premium difference between the conventional engine model and hybrid model, which can be as high as several thousand dollars. You may want to consider the total cost of ownership when comparing hybrid and non-hybrid models----and you may have to own the hybrid car for 8+ years before you break even on the higher purchase price for the hybrid model vs. the savings of fuel consumed. Given that matter, you may want to consider a Camry LE, SE or XLE (the luxo version) sedan as an alternative. Hope this is helpful in your search for a vehicle.

Q: How can I lower my interest rate on my car loan?
Price: 25K Downpayment: 12K Make: Toyota Model: Solara 2006 Interest Rate: 8.9% (kinda high for me) FICO: 680+ My monthly payment is 254.72 and I owe less than 11K on it. What can I do or say to lower my interest rate or is there a better car finance anyone could recommend? Thank you!

A: do you belong to a credit union? when i bought my car, i initially had a high interest rate because i did the huuuge mistake of financing it through the dealer (terrible, terrible terrible!!). although, i refi'd it basicly the next day at my credit union for a rate of 4.79%.... and by checking my credit union's rates today it is 5.49% for 36mo (with no prepayment penalties). Bankrate.com, i think, has a LOT of consumer information regarding a broad range of topics including auto refinancing (current rates avg from 6.81-7.32%, today, from off the site)

Q: Certified preowned 2006 Solara SE base?
The car has 28,300 miles on it and is 4 cylinders, base model. It's certified by Toyota, carfax is good with clean title, and I bargained down the salesperson to $14,200 but said he wants $14,300. I walked away and he didn't come chasing me. He said that $14,300 is the Kelley blue book WHOLESALE price, different from the trade-in value ($12,700). He also showed me the receipt of how much they bought it for, showed $14,117, at an auction. Did he make up the wholesale number and is the receipt fake? Is $14,300 a good deal ($100 more than private party value)?

A: After checking autotrader.com, looks like a good deal. "Certified" is more expensive because of the longer warranty, reconditioning and such. Now I don't believe that they paid what they claim (let me guess, the paper looked like it was printed out of any computer).... but that's around the going price. You could probably find a new '07 SE with automatic for around $16,900 though......

Q: I am buying a new car, need your help!!!!!!?
I am thinking about buying a 2006 Toyota Solara. Does anyone have any idea about pricing, and things like that.

A: you can see what its worth if you look it up at the "kelly blue book" web cite(www.kbb.com). they will ask you all the options and how many miles it has, other trinket stuff like that. That way you know what its worth, and if you are getting a good deal or not. Not sure what part of the world you live in but up here in the ak we're paying $18,971 for a 4 cly, manual pretty basic car to $22,462 for a fully loaded V6 atuomatic. if you live in the lower 48 you'll more than likelly pay wayyy less

Q: Anyone in here an expert on trading and buying new cars?
Okay here it goes: I had a jeep for only 6months that I purchased new. I then in May 2006 bought a Toyota Solara with $3,000 negative equity attached to that car. NOW, I'm at it again. I have my eyes on a 2007 Mustang, and I want that car!!! I know if I get it, there will be more negative equity attached to this car. I know that the rebate will help some, but not by much. What are my options here? Is there any way I can get this car without my payments going up anymore? OR am I stuck?! oh by the way, I've only had the toyota for one year, and some months.

A: Here is the technical answer. You can do whatever you want. If you want the Mustang, you can get it. You are going to pay more. You are best off selling your current car privately to get the most money for it. Hopefully, that will cover the outstanding balance on the loan although this is doubtful because you are still paying off your Jeep. Now here's the real answer. You are slowly walking a path of being broke. You need to be a little financially disciplined. There are a lot of things i want right now, but I have to wait for because I can't afford them. Think about it this way. If you trade in your Toyota now, you will be paying off three cars at once since your loan balance will have a piece of the Ford, Toyota, and Jeep in it. I'd stick it out with what you have right now, which is a very nice car that will keep you going for a while.

Q: Cutting springs?
I have a 2006 Toyota Solara 2.4 liter 4 cyl. and I am wanting to lower the ride height at the most 2 inches. I have lowered MANY cars before but never this particular one. On most cars, if you cut out one round from the stock springs, it is a 2 inch drop but for this car I am not that sure. I dont want to make it too low and I am without a doubt going to do this myself and I want to spend the least amount of money as possible. I know that most people will say cutting your stock springs will make your car ride rough and bouncy but those people are fools so please dont reply with that answer. The only time a car will ride rough from cutting the springs is when you cut them too much and the frame sits on the bump-stops. So basically all I need to know if anyone does know is how much of a drop will it create by cutting ONE round out of the stock springs.

A: Only a f****** idiot would cut the springs on that new of a car. It's still under warranty.

Q: Advice About Jealous Family and friends......?
For 23 years of my life, i experenced struggling. My parents did the best they could in raising 3 girls & 1 boy. We all went though hardship, with bills and food. My daddy is a GOOD dad. He would work so hard, but most times he would borrow money so that the family could eat. My relatives were always the ones to live a suburban lifestyle. As of now, I'm 24 years old. Thinking of the bad struggle that i went through as a child, i'm able to persevere a better lifestyle. I trusted in GOD for everything i have, and believed the impossible. Soon i will be moving into a $4.7 million estate. Sits on 2.66 acres and my BEST friend (a guy) will move in with me. Its a BIG home. I hve a nice car (2006 Toyota Solara coupe) But my dream car is a Bentley Contenintal CTG, I have to get it. I'm looking for land to build A fashion boutique, and a coffee house, that i hope becomes a chain. I'm not bragging, by far...but here's the problem.... Im only 24, but i have the mind set of a Powerful entreprenuer. All by myself, i was able to inverst in somthing that has earned me FARRR more than what was expected. The thing is, now, Ive moved FAR above my family and FARR above my suburban relatives. NO one expected this of me. Also no one knows what my plans are, because i don't tell my buisness. the question is...What do i do, when my family finds out. i know that they are going to be Envious. I pan on helping peopl, but what should i say, when they ask for money, only because they know i have it. I don't want to be taken advantage of. PLS help with advise One person asked, "how did you do all this''?.. Well, i invested my money in stocks & bonds, invention technology, and franchising my own Fashion boutique & coffee house (inside my boutique) "Beauty A La Mode (upscale fashion) and Coffee A La Mode". Any one with Entreprenuer questions, can e-mail or send yahoo IM I know tht i keep adding on messages, but i must repky to Sunnydee_25..I'm not affended by her bitter sweet message, but i just need to clarify myself...i'm not a snob, and i don't think i'm better. One think is that God taught me that , the blessings that he give, are not mine alone, But i must be a cheeful giver. I'm a VERY spititual person. But i REFUSE to say YES to anyone who i feel, thinks of me as a Human Bank. I also KNOW my family, and some of my relative want to be on top of it all. I know their jealous ways. I'm not going into this "big life" expecting them to be jealous, i KNOW they will be. Which is why i needed advice on how to handle it.

A: Stick to helping your immediate family, especially your dad who struggled so hard. As for anyone else it is ok to say no to people. If you dont the vultures will be all over you thinking you have an endless supply of money. You dont owe anyone an explanation of why you say no but if you feel you have to explain tell them your money is tied up and you dont have the cash flow to help everyone who asks you.

Q: Need help deciding what car I should get for a girl in her 20s?
Ok! I'm on the hunt for a new car in the $25-$35,000 price range. I am looking for a car that says sexy and fun for a 20 something female. My sister is telling me to get a Toyota Solara maybe in a convertible, while my mom is saying a 2006 Lexus IS. I am not sure where to start now that that time has come. I currently have 2002 Honda accord coupe and I have decided I want to try something a little different. Therefore, I don't want another accord. Do you guys have any suggestions as to what cars I should give a look?

A: I recommend taking a look at: Acura TSX, Toyota Camry, Lexus IS250, Infiniti G35 (and the G37 coupe) Audi A4
