Q: How do I close the rear windows on a 1998 Toyota Sienna?
The back side windows were forced open from the outside, now we can't get them to close.

A: The switch on the front Sienna dash activates a computer chip and controls a motor, one connected to each rear vent window allowing each window to simultaneously open and close. Each window motor is like $300 for each side plus it's so time consuming meaning it's easy to get one side to close but closing them TOGETHER at the same time can be frustrating as well as taking forever...but eventually you will finally get both to close together. Once you do get them to close together, I would reccommend you stopped using the rear bent windows m bec paying an expert mechanic will only increase your outlay on a vehicle already 10 years old and it's not worth the your time & trouble exp if the mechanic says he can only offer like 12 months warranty only if you allow him to order brand new Toyota geniune part(s)

Q: Does the 1998 Toyota Sienna have an AUX audio input jack, if it does, where is it located?
I heard it might be in the glove box, but I'm not sure.

A: i don't believe it has an aux input, not very high demand in 98, what they might have been referring to is aux power source for adding electronics to your car, usually located behind the glove box.

Q: Can 2nd Row Captain's Chairs be installed in a 1998 Toyota Sienna equipped with a 2nd Row small bench seat?
I would like to make this conversion to Captian's Chairs and suspect that some kind of adapter plate will have to be mounted to the floor. Is there a manufacturer of such a plate(s)

A: The stock mounting locations are welded into the floor, I do not know if they ever made a adapter for capton chairs. I have not ever seen one and have been working on Toyotas for 10 years

Q: 1998 Toyota Sienna Engine check light on?
Error code is oxygen sensor, so I replaced with new one, drive 2 miles and the light come back on again! Any suggestion? Should I go to the dealer for further inspection?

A: sometimes the gas cap will go bad and it will make your light come on

Q: Toyota Sienna 1998 What has been your exprience?
How many miles does it have now or when you sold it?

A: Excellent car. We had a 98 Sienna XLE for several years until my wife ran it into another car at a stop light. It about made both of us cry. We promptly went out and bought another Sienna to replace it. Can't remember what the mileage was, but it was a "ValueMax" car from CarMax, so the mileage must have been pretty high (70K+ I think). If you're looking at one, I wouldn't worry about mileage that much because, well, it's a Toyota, especially if it has the V6. If you have consumerreports.org online, you can check the reliability. I can't give you a link to the page (because it requires a subscription to access), but I'm looking at the reliability page for the 98 Sienna now. The general reliability page is red or half-red in all areas (red=good); the detailed reliability page shows a few neutrals and one black area (body hardware).

Q: Can a 2004 toyota sienna outrun a 1998 ford crown vic?
Despite the sienna having a v-6 and the ford a v-8 I noticed the sienna has more horespower 230 vs.224.

A: Lets look at this. while the Hp is a bit higher, you cant forget about power to weight ratio. Sienna: Power: 172 kW , 230 HP SAE @ 5,600 rpm; 242 ft lb , 328 Nm @ 3,600 rpm Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (lbs) 5,690 Weight: 4,170 lbs. Crown Victoria: Power: 160 kW , 215 HP @ 4,500 rpm; 285 ft lb , 386 Nm @ 3,000 rpm Weights: gross vehicle weight rating (lbs) 5017.72 lb and curb weight (lbs) 3917.61 Sienna : .05516Hp per pound. Crown Vic : @215 around .05489 Hp per pound @224HP .05719 Hp per pound As you can see from that the Crown Vic rated at 224 Hp would be "faster" than a sienna. Another thing to look at is the big torque difference (about 43 foot pounds) and thats for the engine rated at only 215 HP so from just this you could assume that the 215 HP would take off faster than the sienna (off the line) but the sienna would then slowly catch up and pass the crown vic. The 224 hp crown vic would both take off faster and keep ahead of the sienna. Remember dont just think of speed as purely horsepower dependent. Im sorry i went off on such a tangent, but i hope this helps.

Q: 1998 toyota sienna dash board light problems?
dash board light stays on while ignition is off

A: I've same problem, i try to find something about it!!

Q: how to replace brake pad/shoes of toyota sienna 1998?
my toyota sienna 98 front brakes squeels when brake is applied, how do I replace the pads?

A: buy the Haynes manual for your car. it will give you step by step instructions.

Q: Adding power steering fluid - Toyota Sienna 1998?
When I check my power steering fluid contaiern, it is below the cold max level. Can I add (mix) Dex ATF without flushing out existing fluid in the container? Or What is the best way to do this?

A: We too have a 1998 Sienna XLE and FYI it uses ATF Dexron III as identified on the cap of the power steering reservoir. Talk about lessons learned and stupid mistakes, a while back I saw the power steering level was down and didn't pay attention to the Toyota owners manual as well as cap...and saw a red plastic bottle of Prestone Power Steering Fluid on my shelf in the garage. Anyway I poured it in and like the next 2 days, when I would be turning going down/up the underground garage parking levels at work I could hear a squealing noise. My mechanic was busy that afternoon and asked me to come back the next day but it was so scared with FEAR that big $$ were staring me right in the face that when I got home I took out my ratchets and 10mm socket and removed the power steering reservoir and then dump the contaminated solution and refilled with ATF Dexron III <= Yes it is red! Thanks to the Grace of God, he saved me much embarrassment & $$ as the squeal noise went away and I learned my lesson... So YES, simply take a bottle of Dexron III ATF Fluid and simply add it to the Power Steering Reservoir and No, you don't have to flush the existing fluid and it's okay to mix in with the existing power steering fluid. FYI I recently visited 2 local Toyota dealers and both said there is no quality difference in the manufacturing standards on which Dexron III ATF you decide to use, i.e Toyota's or a ATF Dexron III you would find at an Auto Parts store or say Walmart. Please note this is not true for newer Toyotas that require strictly Toyota Type T-IV ATF Fluids and the same goes for Toyota Red Coolant according to my mechanic... If you have the tools and do your own oil changes you might also want to "Drain your ATF Fluid <= which I have seen experts recommend anywhere between a range from every 15,000 to 30,000 miles" and then measure what comes out and then Add Dexron III back through the ATF Filler Neck which requires special funnel. The most I have ever added is 2 1/2 quarts. FYI the tool required is a 10mm Allen Wrench and when having our Sienna XLE serviced for Timing Belt, Water Pump & Thermostat at 98,000 miles bec we were going on a long out-of-town trip, I had asked my mechanic to loosen the bolt <= but he recommended I go and buy the metric Allen Wrench set (found really nice set at Lowes) bec owner charged $30 for ATF drain & refill.. Hope the Above Info Helps and Best of Luck!

Q: Check Engine light - 1998 Toyota Sienna?
When I saw Check Engine sign on my dash, I took my van(160k) to a Toyota dealer and they came out with OBD codes for defective front pipe and knock sensor. Before that I had leaky muffler too. They replaced muffler and front pipe thinking that these defective parts triggered 'defective knock sensor OBD code'. But, Check engine sign came again right after replacing parts. Should I go ahead with knock sensor replacement? can someone share opinions on this?

A: Go back to the dealer and have them run a diagnostic again. The knock sensor will set you back $210 plus labor as its no longer covered under warranty. Or if they say there is nothing wrong have them deactivate the check engine light. Or just ignore the light.

Q: Brake light won't turn off - Toyota Sienna?
It's a 1998 Toyota Sienna. The Parking Brake light goes off sometimes but it mostly stays on. Any suggestions for getting it to turn off?

A: As I just told someone with the same problem on a Honda, some cars use that light as both a parking brake "On" indicator and a brake system "Failure" light. Check the fluid level in your master cylinder. If that's OK have the dealer or a mechanic see if it's a brake system problem.

Q: Hard Acceleration in 98 toyota sienna?
I HAVE A 1998 TOYOTA SIENNA, MY PROBLEM IS, ITS SLOW ACCELERATION, GAS PEDAL IS ALREADY ON THE FLOOR BUT THE ENGINE SEEMS TO HAVE A HARD TIME ACHIEVING 20-30MPH, PARTICULARLY IF I AM RUNNING UPHILL. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

A: Could be that your transmission is on the way out or your camshafts are starting to wipe out!! Have it checked out!!

Q: Toyota Sienna: power locks and interior lights all went out?
My power locks and interior lights (and clock display) all went out on my Sienna, together. The power locks only work now when the engine is running. What might cause this? Anyone with a 1997-2003 Sienna might have an idea (this is a 1998 Sienna).

A: Yes, it is the fuse bec I experienced a similar problem when we were driving our 1998 SIENNA XLE on a vacation in Maine and my initial thoughts were Oh No! How am I going to lock and secure everything inside the vehicle. Anyway, I did look in the owners manual and there was even a spare fuse so Thank Goodness, peace of mind and everything went back to normal where it didn't ruin our vactaion... Hope the Above Info Helps!

Q: Is there a Toyota approved test to determined weather a sludge problem is present on a 1998 to 2003 Sienna van
I went earlier in the year and they gave me a lame excuse and charged me $100.00 to look at it. The oil filler cap has a rust color sunstance on it not the typical sludge I am familier with. I need to find a test for the recall sludge problem which I am sure it has, I been using synthetic motor oil to lessen the problem since I noticed it before the recall. Thank You The Toyota dealer stated that they checked the inside of the valve covers and checked the tail pipe smoke, they said it was normal wear. I need a iron clad test that will conveince Toyota that my engine should be part of the recall. I know the dealer did not want to find the recall problem but I can,t prove it that way so I need another method.

A: Sometimes it is as easy as starting the engine and looking for blue smoke. That would be a good indication of a sludge problem. The next thing is removing the front cam cover. Sometimes there is some evidence there but not enough so the back cam cover needs to come off. If you have a sludge problem it can always be verified by removing the back cam cover. Inside either cover if there is sludge it is very obvious. It looks like a thick coating of dark brown gelatin. Further checks are cylinder scoring and cam bearing damage.

Q: Whats faster; a 1998 nissan altima or a 2004 toyota sienna?
12pleze;"If the name fits..... Who would compare a van and a car? the Sienna may be faster depending on whether Altima is a 4 or 6." This coming from someone who can't even spell please??? hahahahahahahahaha!!! By the way 98 altimas did not even come with V6 you shithead. They were only 4 bangers and they had the 2.4L KA24DE I4 engine not the 2.5L QR25DE I4

A: Nissan hands down!
